Did Kasich Just Kick Off the 2020 Presidential Race?

Unofficial results show voter turnout in OH was down compared with the 2012 election, though that could change because of uncounted provisional ballots and outstanding absentee ballots. That's slightly lower than the 70.5 percent who turned out in 2012 and almost 70 percent in 2008. The process was based on a number of inputs including voting results from the 2012 election (Obama vs. Romney); from the 2016 primaries (for both the Democrats and Republicans); from the change in primary participation between 2012 and 2016; and the votes for each party from those two primaries as a percentage of the voting population.

A race that could seat a second Democrat on the Ohio Supreme Court remains too close to call.

Today, Kasich wrote in John McCain, though his write-in preference won't be counted under OH law.

The secretary of state's office reports roughly 158,000 provisional ballots have yet to be counted and some 103,000 absentee ballots are outstanding.

Months before the pundits declared that Donald Trump had won the two key swing states of OH and Florida, a Canadian-based financial analyst predicted a similar outcome. He declined to endorse or vote for the NY billionaire and boycotted the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. It started with Governor John Kasich refusing to endorse the nominee.

John Kasich (KAY'-sik) plans to move quickly following Tuesday's election to share his ideas for moving the Republican Party forward. The governor also focused his efforts on helping elect down-ticket GOP candidates.

Republican Donald Trump clinched his victory in OH on Tuesday with support from all parts of the battleground state.

Turnout. Clinton beat Trump in Cuyahoga County 66-31 percent, but the turnout in that Democrat-rich area of the state was low. (In 2012 Obama defeated Romney by 73,000 votes) The former gathered lots of support in the rural and areas to the north of the state while Clinton prevailed in the major cities. Clinton, on the other hand, was seen as the ultimate political insider who has been in the public eye for three decades as first lady, U.S. Senator from NY and U.S. Secretary of State.

Tom Zawistowski - president of the We the People Convention, executive director of the Portage County Tea Party, and a Trump supporter - said Mr. Kasich was in a "lose-lose position".
