Massachusetts Adds 4800 Jobs in October

The Kansas Department of Labor said preliminary estimates showed that the private-sector employment market had lost 1,700 jobs since September and 4,700 jobs since October 2016.

That's down from 3.7 percent in September and 3.9 percent a year ago, state labor officials say. Both of those represent changes of less than 0.5 percent.

The Manhattan area continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in the state, at 2.3 percent.

The unemployment rate in Grand Island edged up a tenth of a percent to 2.4% last month.

The statewide jobless rate also saw a slight increase in October to 2.7 percent. The leisure and hospitality sector has grown by almost 2,500 with other services adding slightly more than 2,000 jobs this year. The national unemployment rate in October was 4.1 percent.

According to Cheryl Stanton, executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, "Last month South Carolina's robust economy grew further, with businesses hiring more people in almost every industry sector".

Government employment, at 772,600, increased by 3,300 positions. That's down from 3.8 percent a year ago. Only Hawaii, at 2.2 percent, and North Dakota, at 2.5 percent, had lower rates.
