More than 230 killed at Sinai mosque in Egypt

According to the TV network, the mosque was attacked during the Friday prayer in the Al Rawdah inhabited community near the city of Arish, the capital of North Sinai Governorate. It also said that 120 people were wounded in the attack.

Egyptian state media MENA provided the death toll, citing an official security source.

Eyewitnesses told the privately-run Al-Yawm al-Sabi website that attackers had stormed the Al-Rawda mosque in the town of Bir al-Abd, and then detonated an explosive device, according to BBC Monitoring.

"We will respond with brute force, we will face those takfiris, we declare three days of mourning", said President Al-Sisi.

It was the deadliest attack since Islamic State's Egyptian affiliate in 2015 bombed a Russian passenger plane carrying holidaymakers from the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, killing 224 people.

In response to the most recent terror attack on USA soil, in NY on October 31, Trump said that: "We're so politically correct that we're afraid to do anything".

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Appalled by the sickening attack on a mosque in North Sinai.

Leaders around the world condemned the mosque attack.

33 Egyptians security forces were killed and a three-month long state of emergency ensued.

"Horrible and cowardly terrorist attack on innocent and defenseless worshipers in Egypt", Trump tweeted.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron also gave their condolences on Twitter, while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said his thoughts were with all those affected. "My honest condolences to all those affected by such a barbaric act", he tweeted.

"We stand with Egyptians in their war against terrorism and against anyone who tries to harm the Egyptian national security", Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said in a statement. Our deep condolences at the loss of innocent lives.
