Students shot at United States high school

Two high school students who were shot near their school Tuesday in the city of Graham near Tacoma are expected to survive.

Troyer also added the police suspected the shooting to be gang-related, which forced not only the high school but nearby Frontier Middle School, Graham Elementary and Nelson Elementary School also to go on lockdown.

The shooting took place at around 2:30 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. EST), according to a report in an ABC-affiliated television station, KOMO-TV.

The shooters were suspected of fleeing the area in a green vehicle. Deputies were actively sweeping the school grounds, but said there was no indication the suspects were on campus.

"We are confident there are no shooters at the school or on the school grounds", sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said about 3:45 p.m.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who recognizes the remaining suspects to call the Sheriff's Office at 253-798-7530 or Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The high school is located at 22100 108th Ave E.in Graham.

"Pretty scary. You never think it's going to happen at the school your children go to, and then you get a text from your child that says there's a shooting at the school, we're locked down", said parent Jolee Caroucher. The Sheriff's Department says the shots were reportedly fired on the Eustis Hunt Road side of the campus, which is the northwest end of the school's property. We have been assured that students still on campus are safe.

The angry parent also claimed that the 'kids in the Impala have gang ties'.

The high school was put in a lockdown that lasted for almost four hours before it was lifted at 6:15 p.m. and school buses began taking students home.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and students involved with this shooting today". Graham-Kapowsin and the other schools that were put on lockdown will follow a normal schedule on Wednesday, which is a scheduled late start for the Bethel School District.
